Restyled Sundays #23 (A Day Late, Not a Dollar Short)

Welcome Back To Restyled Sundays

I am sorry I am running so late today, I had planned on getting this party started this morning and got so busy making birthday gifts for my grandson Charlton, I was almost late to his party. We just got home and turned on the Superbowl and I finally have a minute to sit down and breathe!

Ok, I tried to post this last night throughout the first half of the Superbowl, but my computer would not
cooperate. After running three spyware scans and a virus scan, it is finally a go this morning!
Sometimes computers can be so exasperating!

Well, first of all I want to show you a great thrifting find I have had for a while, but my sweet hubby finally mounted it on the bathroom wall. It was so heavy he had to get some extra strong mounting hardware.

This is my guest bathroom off of the kitchen-hearth room. It is pretty boring and actually on my list of rooms to remodel this year. Well, not actually remodel, just redecorate. And, I could sure use some ideas.

Some boring builders beige walls and not much else. But I love my new ironwork!

My Sweet Princess

Thanks to Alison at The Polohouse, I am showing off my favorite child today!

This is Lady Di. And, Yes she is a princess! And yes, my other 6 children know she is my favorite!

Not only has she never given the grey hairs that they did, she loves me even when I scold her.

Lady is now 6 years old, seems hard to believe, yesterday she was just a puppy!

This is the day we brought her home.

We have a daughter in law who is a veterinarian, who recommended we get a Goldendoodle. They don't shed, they have the temperament of the Golden Retriever, and the brains of the Poodle, and they don't shed. Yeah! We were ready for that after two lab mixes.

When we bought her from a breeder, she was living in a barn with alot of other puppies,

and she smelled like she was living in a barn. We had two puppies to choose from, two were

twelve weeks old and two were 9 weeks old. She was 12 weeks old and a little bigger than I thought

I wanted. But as I picked up each of the four puppies they were all licking me and squirming around, except for Lady. She just laid her head on my shoulder and whispered 'take me away from this place'.

How could I ignore that? So, home with us she went!

I couldn't wait to give her a bath ( I think she was hoping for one also).

She obviously didn't belong on a farm. She was royalty after all!

Here she was taking her first bath. She fit in the kitchen sink!

She was ready to cuddle after she was all cleaned up.

And, here she is today! Doesn't she look like a princess?

Of course she has to get dressed up by my granddaughter when she comes over!

I am not so sure she likes that part, she thinks she is pretty enough with out the pj's!

She loves to look out the window.

Gotta keep an eye on those squirrels!

This was a rare camera shot of her looking straight at me.

She avoids the camera at all costs. Drives me crazy!

After her hairdo, she is in the back of daddy's car.

See how she turns her head!

But the best part of all is how she gives me a hug when I come home!

Angie at Knick of Time Interiors remodeled her guest bathroom,

and you have to see the details. It is amazing! She has so many cute

This fabulous $2 chair makeover was completed by

Pam and her handy husband from Our Adventures in Home Improvement.

It turned out just beautifully, you have to see where it started.

I love this window chalkboard from Flea Market Makeovers.

I really need one of these to keep notes on.

Of course it includes some ASCP on the frame.

Holly, the silent partner at Slipcovered Grey, and her husband, created this

gorgeous bench out of an old headboard. I really want to go thrifting with her!

Fresh and New, Spring Is In The Air

I am so excited to have this project finished. I really love finishing a bigger project like this,

but I am ready for a few smaller projects for a change.

I can't find the before picture of the table,

but this one is a table I restored over a year ago and it is very similar.

And, these are the four chairs in this makeover.

And here is the after!

I don't have a good staging area in my house, so my pictures

are usually taken at the antique store.

This is at Sentimental Journey, so for any of you that are in the

Kansas City area I would love to know if you ever get a chance to stop by.

I was out of chalk paint, so I decided to make my own with

plaster of paris. It did not work out too well ( it was sort of gravely)

so I guess I might try it again with the unsanded grout that others have

had such good luck with.

I ended up sanding my gravely paint down and recoating with

Cashmere White by Glidden in Satin. I then distressed it with my sanding block.

More so on the chairs than the table.

A little on the base,

and the edges. I really love a little distressing, but I can't seem to

bring myself to heavily distress something that I have spent so much time painting.

I am very happy with the results. It seems to have such a fresh and clean look,

I love this shabby chic look, it makes me think that spring is in the air.

I finally read Layla's post at The Lettered Cottage inviting everyone to join her Word of the Year linky party. What a fantastic idea. To center your goals around one word each year. So I decided to join in!

My Word is SIMPLIFY!!!!

When I really stop and think about the goals I set at the first of the year,
a couple of them are directly related to the word Simplify,
and many of the others would happen so much quicker if
I simplified the rest of my life and my home.

Another week has flown by and I hav not posted since last weeks party. Oh, My!

I can't believe how busy the last few weeks have been, it's January and life is

supposed to slow down after the holidays. My sweet hubby had a birthday this week and

we have had several other work related things that seem to have taken up all of my time.

I can't say enough about last weeks party. You guys are doing some amazing makeovers and

finding some great thrifting finds. I always find it difficult to choose my favorites.

But, I am excited about the ones I have chosen this week.

She did a simple glaze with ASCP to give it this very cool look.

Martina at Northern Nesting restyled this little Bombay Table

with ASCP of course. I love how it turned out.

Good Time Charlie from Redoux shared a simple makeover

of a long loved French Bench. Simply Gorgeous.

Peggy at The Painted Pear restyled this cute little dresser

and you must read about the cute knobs she made.

And, last but not least, Joan at Life at 2810 created this simple

towel rack out of various old knobs. So cute and yet so simple.

I have been working on a big project here and hope to reveal it by tomorrow.

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays!

What a great party we had last week. You all had great things to share.

Of course, I had a few favorites, so let's see who is featured.

First, I was blown away by the transformation of this old armoire by

JoAnn at Life at 2810 . I have never seen a cabinet quite like this one

and the makeover is amazing. You have to check out the before!

Next, we have an amazing transformation of a lingerie chest by

Catherine at Freddy and Petunia . She actually made the doors and

created a great storage unit. Check it out.

It looks like Angie at Knick of Time Interiors loves vintage

fans as much as I do. She is taking advantage of the cold winter weather

to get great buys on these at auctions.

Peggy at RePear Tree Designs tried her hand at

homemade chalk paint and had a great result with this chair makeover.

She also has a great hint for finding chair fabric at thrift stores.

And once again, Korrie, at Red Hen Home , amazes us all with her

Compass Coffee Table makeover.

Book Page Bulletin Board

One thing I always have plenty of in my stash is old pictures from garage sales.

Who knows when you will need a frame for something.

So, I decided to use one of these to make a bulletin board.

I actually made this one back about Halloween when I was

going Mod Podge crazy with book page pumpkins.

I cut up small pieces of dictionary pages and overlapped them

while gluing them on the frame with Mod Podge.

I love doing this kind of stuff while I am watching TV with my

hubby at night. He hates it if I go to the basement to paint furniture, so

these smaller projects keep us together.:)

I then cut down a cork board that I had bought at another garage sale and wallah!

Another fun project to sell at the antique mall.

Welcome Back To Restyled Sundays

Before I show you this weeks featured links, I want to share a feature at my house this week.

I have the most beautiful Amaryllis blooms that have finally opened up.

I received this for Christmas, actually got it mid December, and kept telling

my family it would open on Christmas Day. Or, pretty darn close.

Well, we waited and waited and it finally opened up yesterday. I assumed it would be

red or red and white, but I was totally surprised when I saw this.

I had never seen a pink Amaryllis and didn't even realize they came in pink.

Aren't these blooms beautiful?!

Now on to this weeks features.

First, Becky from Generation To Generation found and

salvaged this gorgeous church pew that had special meaning to her.

And Becky from Beyond The Picket Fence shared

her favorite things. I couldn't just pick one but I love the different colors of stain

on the first table, and I love, love, love potting benches. This girl can do

amazing things with reclaimed wood. I wish I could spend a week with her

and learn how to build like she does.

Korrie at Red Hen Home refinished this free table for a friend.

I absolutely love the two tone stain . She always does some amazing makeovers.

Last, but not least, is this amazing T-shirt Scarf from Jenni at Who Makes Up This Craft

created from recycled old t-shirts. What a cute idea!

Small Cabinet Makeover

Yeah!!, I actually have a before picture, even though it is really a in progress picture.

This door on this cabinet was starting to split, so I used some wood glue and had to tie it together,

because my clamps wouldn't fit without taking the door apart. My husband would have

taken the door off, but I like to go with the quicker not so professional looking technique. :)

Hey, it worked!

And here is the after!

I painted the cabinet Old White (ASCP) and the insets in

the drawer and doors in Paris Grey.

I added a little Paris Grey over the white on the trim and

used a small brush to add grey in the border.

Finally, I dry brushed some of the Old White over the Paris Grey.

I think it turned out really cute and someone else liked it really well,

because it didn't last long at the Sentimental Journey Antique Mall.

New Finds For My Antique Booth

I had some great finds for my antique booth in December. It was so crazy around here that I didn't get a chance to share them with you before now. These pieces were so beautiful that I had to show you now.

First of all is this gorgeous antique oak dresser. I don't have the mirror put together in this

picture, because I was missing some hardware, but it is fixed now. There are two side supports that have

a mirror suspended in the middle. I love the little piece of marble in the center.

It just dresses it up so beautifully.

The pulls are the coolest part, they are handcarved leaves with some fruit and nuts, I think?

The next piece (which came from the same estate sale as the dresser) is

this lovely oak china cabinet with the curved glass front and glass shelves.

Isn't she pretty?

And finally, this trestle table. Sorry, this is not the best picture, but the entire base of this

table comes completely apart for transporting. Not ony would this be a great kitchen or dining table,

but I think it would make a wonderful desk.

I may have to restage it if it is still around this weekend.

I have so many painting projects going on, so it was nice to find some things that were ready to sell.

Another Pink Dresser

I always loved pink when I was a little girl,

I just had forgotten how much since I have five boys and only one daughter.

Yes, her room was pink when she was young, but she quickly out grew that phase.

It's just since I have been painting furniture, that I have been able to add so much pink to

my creative thoughts. I am loving it!

This dresser started out with the most hideous shade of yellow stain.

I don't know if it was always that color, or the varnish had yellowed that

much over the years.

Well, here it is finished. I went with the palest shade of pink.

Actually, I mixed my own from a brighter pink I had

and added lot's of white paint.

I just painted the existing pulls ORB to update them.

I really wanted to find some sweet girly pulls, but these were like

3 and 3/4" and I was not able to find anything in that width.

I know I could have filled the holes and re drilled new ones, but I didn't realize it

until after I had painted. Next time, measure before painting!

I think it turned out very sweet, and the improvement from

the lovely yellow stain was fabulous.

2012 Goals and Restyled Sundays #18

Happy New Year!

It seems so strange to think about 2012 being here.

I swear Y2K was not that long ago, where did the last 12 years go?

Before making any resolutions, I thought I would go over last years list and see how I did.

1.Post regularly- I think I did ok with that, but this year I want to be more intentional.

2. Take before photos- I am getting much better at that, but still forget once in a while.

3.Get a new camera to improve my pics- Yeah, I got a Canon T3, now to learn more about it.

4. Paint what I have before I buy more- Big Failure! Must work on that one!

5.Master Mod Podge- I have definitely gotten better, but I wouldn't say I've mastered it.

6. Join more linky parties-I was doing really well with this, but have slid backwards.

7.Find more ways to re purpose and restyle-Thanks to blogland I know the ways, now to try them.

8. Clean out my stash of projects- Another Big Failure!

I guess I haven't done too bad, I accomplished more than I thought,

but I need to work on those goals that I totally failed at.

Soooo.... for 2012 here she goes

1. I am going to set a regular posting schedule for myself. If I know what days I am going to post,

I can work on those posts ahead of time, instead of thinking I need to sit down and write it all at once.

2. Continue to grow my blog and make new blogging friends.

3. Buy no more furniture or small projects until I finish what I have!!!

4. Finish my sewing projects that are started, or give them away!!!

5. Bring a more cohesive look to my antique booths.

6. Get back into my Etsy business.

7. Learn to use my camera effectively

8. Clean and organize both my sewing and painting work areas.

Ok, I think that's enough for one year. I have some personal goals as well, but for my blogging

and Restyling business, I will feel great if I can accomplish all of these.

I want to thank Chelsea at Kiss My Brass for being the sole participant in last weeks party,

besides myself of course. It was Christmas Day, so I know you were all busy. I sure hope to see you

I have had so much fun this year blogging about my ongoing projects. Since this has been my first full year posting, I decided to join in with the crowd and share my favorites.

I love this little stool, but it was so easy, it can't be any higher than this!

I was pretty proud of my first slipcover attempt with this little chair.

I love pink, so this desk makeover was super fun.

I was really pleased with this desk makeover! It

had a formica top and I got it for $17, yay!

A Very Vintage Christmas

Ok, now about our Very Vintage Christmas!

We decided to try something new this year, I got the idea from a blog I read.

I cannot remember what blog, but they suggested not buying anything new this year,

so we decided it had to be from a thrift or antique store, handmade,

or something you were willing to part with of your own. Only for the adults, of course!

We did not include the kids, didn't think they would go for the used toys:(

We have drawn names for the last few years and we did so again.

I'm sure that some of us were much easier to buy for than others, but we made it work and it was fun.

My mom got a whole bag of pretties. She and I both love blue and white everything!

Dad got a used book.

One of my sons loves anything to do with the British, so he received some

coins that my dad got when he was stationed in England during the Korean War.

A book about Scottish Klan Plaids

And a cool tin poster about a very British Ale.

My daughter bought a cute storage bench for her sister-in-law

and made this adorable cushion with their last name in many fonts.

She also found her this cute 1950's kitchen stool.

My other daughter-in-law drew my name and found this very cool vintage fan.

I found this KU Jayhawk garden statue at one the antique malls

for my daughter.

I was lucky enough to also receive this cute dough bowl

and the rooster above from my daughter.

My very crafty daughter made the three young boys capes

with their initials instead of Superman's S. How cute they were!

Grandpa even helped them learn how to fly!

After two weeks of being missing in blogland, I am coming back to the computer again! I hate to be a Scrooge, but I am truly glad this Christmas is over. don't get me wrong, the last two days have been delightful, but getting there was not pretty. I got so far behind this year, that I didn't buy but one or two gifts before Thursday. I have always been a last minute shopper, and this year was no different. But, I am different! I am getting old (57 years old) and I just can't shop like I used to. Ha! The joke was on me!
I had been so busy with keeping the booths at the antique mall stocked for Christmas that I almost didn't get my home decorated. In fact, I only got a few things out :( It was really kinda nice to have a little less out, I think it is time to weed out some of the not so essential decorations.

I just want to share my favorites from two weeks ago, sorry that I missed last week....

First is these adorable sheet music ornaments from Barb at Turtles and Tails

What a cool way to restore a dresser with missing drawers.

I almost forgot to take that before picture again!

At least this way you can see some of my other junk around this table as I was painting.

And here it is finished and at Lone Elm Antique Mall.

It didn't last long though, someone has already found it a home!

I am loving the all black.

I made my own chalk paint and used Minwax Paste Wax to seal it.

I painted four different chairs to match.

Here is a view of the table runner I had made.

I will be sure to share a few of those later.

Welcome Back for Restyled Sundays. The weeks just seem to get busier and busier as we get closer to Christmas. We had family visiting from California and Oklahoma this weekend and it was so good to see them. It's amazing how fast their kids are growing. So much fun, but I am exhausted, and really behind on blogging. Both posting and reading. I have a lot to catch up on this week. With only 13 days left till Christmas, I probably will remain behind until the holidays are over. I am already looking forward to January and the chance to get reorganized and caught up on things. Is anyone else out there ready for it to be over?
I don't mean to sound like Scrooge, but I have too much to do and too little time, as I am sure many of you do also.

A Short Dresser With Chunky Legs And A Reminder

When will I learn to take before pics consistently?

This started out as a very dark, overly varnished low dresser.

I gave it two coats of ASCP and distressed it lightly,

thengave it a coat of clear Minwax.

The knobs are the turquoise ones left from the buffet that sold last week.

Yes, there is a missing knob, the screw would not grab the back

of the knob, so I had to get a longer screw.

This is our new booth at Sentimental Journey and

we have it all decked out for Christmas.

A fun display of Christmas Trees.

I wish I could say that the big white tree was vintage, but

it actually came from Walmart. But I am always on the

lookout for an older white tree. Or, maybe one of those silver ones with

the rotating color light projector. We had one of those when I was little.

My Favorite Makeover Ever!

This is my favorite furniture makeover ever.

I found this very old oak buffet at a church garage sale this summer.

I only paid $25 for it since they were getting ready to close and willing to bargain.

Have you ever seen such beautiful trim work before?

Other than the brass handles and a major need for glue, she was beautiful to start with.

It took alot of glue and clamping to secure some loose joints, and then the ASCP

in Paris Grey. I did some moderate distressing to bring out her highlights, and ended up with this.

Sorry these pics aren't great, but I took her to the antique store on Sunday and forgot my

camera. I had found some great light turquoise knobs that looked very antique, but I had not found handles that I thought looked good with them. So, I had taken it down anyway, because I had help that day to carry it. ( I can't believe how heavy oak furniture is.) I was going to look for handles on my lunch hour when the antique store called and wanted to know how much I wanted for it. I had not even priced it, since I did not have the handles. They said the lady wanted it as is. So I ran out and took pictures with my phone. When she picked it up, she left the knobs I had chosen and said she was going a different direction.

I could totally see crystal knobs on this buffet, but couldn't find enough of them at HL when I was there.

So there you have it, my favorite piece ever. Now I will spend the rest of my days searching Craigslist for another one. You never know when a new favorite will come along.

The French Stool and a Reminder

The title of my last post said something about a french stool.

And, I forgot to include it in the post.

I was so excited about being featured at Knock Off Decor!

Well, here it is. Once again, no before pics.

But it was one of those old beat up wooden stools.

I got it at a garage sale for $3. What a deal!

It is hard to see from these pics, but I painted it a very pale color of pink.

I then did my very first stencil project and added the fleur-de-lis on the seat.

I think it turned out pretty cute, how about you?

Restyled Sundays #11 and a Winner!

It has been an incredibly busy weekend full of fun, thrifting and getting ready for the Christmas Holiday at the antique booths. I am so exhausted, but I wanted to get the party rolling before I hit the sack! Last week we only had two people participating in the Restyled Sunday's Party and the First Ever Giveaway. I hope that means that the rest of you were really busy with Halloween and getting ready for the holidays yourself.

I truly want to thank both of the great ladies who shared with us this week. It means alot to me and I hope to see more of you this week!

Dresser Makeover and Giveaway

I found this three piece bedroom set earlier this summer. It is probably from the 30's according to my mom.

I love the vanity and the big round mirror, but the bed and dresser were pretty great as well.

The only thing I have finished so far is the tall checst. It had that real shiny finish that was flaking off badly and some veneer that was buckling. Perfect for the ASCP. I didn't even have to sand it, but I did glue the loose veneer down before painting.

Here she is before. Really needed some help, huh!

And, here she is after two coats of ASCP in Old White. Mild distressing and one coat of wax later, she looks like a new model.

I love the trim and how it shows up after the distressing.

I have to get to work now on the other two pieces of the set.

Pottery Barn Plant Stand Knockoff and Giveaway Reminder

I actually posted this plant stand a few weeks ago, but forgot to show my inspiration, so this is an update of that post.

I finally decided to try a knock off when I found this poor sad little plant stand at a garage sale for $3.

I remembered seeing one very similar to it in last years Pottery Barn catalogue.

Obviously this was a pretty simple paint and distress project, but I am still very happy with how it turned out.

I never distress quite as much as other people do. I think I am just fighting with myself

over the paint job I just worked so hard on. Do you have trouble sanding off

too much of the paint you just put on your projects, too?

OK, I know it is Monday again, but yesterday was a day filled with computer problems. It was taking five minutes to load a single page, so I ran every virus scan and malware I could find. Finally by this morning I had my computer back in working order! Yeah!! I just could not deal with writing a post in slow motion.
Well, enough of the excuses, on to the party.

Little Red Chair, Come On Over

This is another one of those posts that only shows the after:(

But, the after is so cute, it is all ok. This was just a plain wicker childs chair

that I decided to spruce up a little.

Some red gloss paint and a cute little cushion brought it right up to date.

I made the cushion reversible for a quick change up.

I think this is perfect for Grandma's house.

Three different style thread spools and a vintage potato masher.

A nice iron candle holder ( please ignore the lovely candle)

This enamel ware mixing bowl.

An old ironstone soapdish.

This large yellow tin with a powder sifter top.

And finally a set of enamel ware serving spoons.

A Sweet Pink Vanity

A few months ago I bought this adorable desk/ vanity from another dealer who was clearancing it out. It almost seemed a sin to paint over this beautiful maple, but it had so much potential if I did.

The two features I fell in love with on this piece, were the knobs and the twisted trim.

It always amazes me how much a few little details can really make a piece.

So, here is the finished product. I wanted the palest pink I could find, and yet I already had

so many pinks that I hated to go buy another one. With enough white paint

added in I was able to mix my own and come up with the perfect shade.

Some mild distressing to give it that vintage look.

I really love the style of the mirror.

How perfect would this look in a girls room?

Stand Tall Pretty Plantstand

I really have been working on alot of projects, but haven't had much time to post lately.

So here is one of those quick, check it off my list kinda projects.

I started with this $5.00 wooden plant stand. It needed a little sanding and some glue.

After that I used Rustoleum Colonial White spray paint. It is really a great off white color.

Some light distressing and a coat of Minwax and it is simply beautiful.

Recycled Vintage Spoon Rests

You know those wooden spoon rests that seem to be at every garage sale. I used to love them with all of the little collectors spoons when I was a kid, but obviously they are no longer in style for that use. I am sure I have seen these as jewelry holders on some one's blog, but I can't remember where. I had at least four of them in my stash and recently redid these two. They are now bright and fun, and I think they would look adorable in a teens room with all of their fun necklaces and bracelets hanging on them.

A coat of bright green paint and some vinyl add ons from my daughter's Cricut.

I love this saying, Keep Calm and Sparkle On. My daughter came up with that one.

The next two are probably going to be a little more Shabby Chic.

I totally should have started this party this morning, but we had a big triple birthday party to get ready for today. My dad turned 89 on Thursday, and my son and I had birthdays two weeks ago. We had the rest of the family over today to celebrate. I have decided that having company (even family) over is the only way I really get my house in order, so I cleaned all day before they got here. They just went home and I finally have time to sit down and write this post.

I am so excited because I got a Canon DSLR camera for my birthday. I chose the Canon because everyone told me it is so user friendly, and Sam's Club is having a great special package deal on it right now. I had no idea how much I would need to learn, so bear with me as I figure out how to use it. I am going to share some of my first pics, please don't judge :}

I did not do a lot of thrifting this week, but we did go to the grand opening of the new Salvation Army Superstore near us and found a few goodies. Here are a few of them.

These lighthouse plates by Oneida are part of the David Carter Brown Collection.

I just loved them (as I do love lighthouses) and will be keeping my eye open for more of these.

This sweet terra cotta pot with little roses along the edge.

And a Styrofoam topiary set for $1.00, what a deal.

A couple of great yardsticks to add to my collection.

This adorable owl wall hanging just seems to draw you in!

A mink headband! How fun is that for a special winter hairdo?

I guess for not shopping much, I did pretty well!

I had some great fun thrifting this week! My mom and I discovered a great antique mall north of St Jo, Missouri and shopped for about 2 hours. Mom wore out, so I took my daughter back yesterday and they were having a parking lot sale as well. We had a blast, got some great buys and of course let some slip through our fingers. We found a really large picture with a very elaborate frame for $25 dollars at the parking lot sale, but didn't buy it right away. When I went back to get it, it was gone by about 5 minutes. :(
It always makes me sad when I do that, I just need to pay for it when I see it. Lesson learned, again!

Well we did find some great things to show you.

They had a great selection of vintage jars for a song.

Two nice pyrex bowls in the wheat pattern. What great fall colors.

A nice tole painted tray. I'm looking for two more for a project.

This sweet blue and white pitcher was calling my name.

And last but not least were this set of black poodle salt and pepper shakers,

they look just like my girl!

Shabby Chic Rocking Chair

I found this sweet little rocking chair at the antique mall when one of the dealers was clearing out her stuff. She originally had it marked at $15 and when everything was at 50% off I couldn't resist.

I just fell in love with this carved back. It is just so feminine.

After a couple of coats of Krylon's Ballerina Slipper spray paint she is fit for a princess.

I just happened to have this soft paisley fabric to cover the seat.

A closer look at the back. I hope someone likes her as much as I do.

Shabby Chic Mirror Makeover

I am always finding these old mirrors with gold frames at garage sales and thrift stores, so I had to share this restyled one, just so you know I am getting something done. ( So many projects half finished, nice to have one to post)

This one was in really nice shape. I think I paid $6 for it.

The backs usually are held on by screws, so they are really easy to remove.

After a little black gloss spray paint....

It looks quite chic.

The perfect look for that Shabby Chic room.

I love these mirrors and I'm so happy to find them so often.

It's A Great Room Again

We have lived in our house for almost nine years.

We had the great room just as we liked it shortly after we moved in.

Here is a picture from back then.

Then we decided to paint the room. We moved all of the furniture out and painted it. When we put the rug back in, hubby said this would be a perfect place for a pool table and I said ok. So, after an exhausting

effort to find the perfect pool table, we had this.

Of course the dogs had to get in the picture.

It was really fun for about the first year, then it got old.

And nobody played pool very often.

So, we decided to put it back like it was.

Please forgive these pics, they were taken at night.

We just put it back together a few weeks ago, and I still have a lot to do to update it and get it like I want it.

I think with the darker walls and the dark leather sofas, it needs some more color.

Maybe some more light pillows?

I would love some ideas!

Restyled Sunday's #3

Here we are once again for Restyled Sunday's. I almost got this up a day late again, but managed to get this up on the correct day! I keep thinking my weeks are going to settle down, but the busyness just keeps coming. We have had gorgeous weather this weekend, so I have been a spray painting fool. Lot's of projects started, several almost finished. I just need to make a run to WM in the morning for more paint and then I will show you some finished projects.

Restyled Sundays (A Day Late!)

This week I did a little Annie Sloan Chalk Paint makeover with a little French Provencial table of my own.

I started with this simple end table I found at Goodwill for $6.99.

Added ASCP in Paris Grey, distressed and waxed with clear Minwax.

I think I got a beautiful result with very little effort.

She is now for sale at Sentimental Journey.

I did not have time this weekend to thrift because my dad is in the hospital, but I bought this earlier in the week and it may be my favorite poodle figurine yet. I have been looking for a set for several years and found this sitting in a booth near mine for $8.50. I have seen them listed on ebay for as high as $75.00. I couldn't get to the front to buy it fast enough. Be sure to tell your friends about the party, the more the merrier!

Ok, So in my last post I told you I was starting a linky party on Tuesdays but I couldn't come up with a name. I looked at alot of different parties and decided that Sundays had the least. As far as a name, it finally decided I had one that was perfect. I am going to call it

Restyled Sundays

I don't mean to be so fickle and keep changing my mind, but I do want to keep life interesting here in blogland! This party will be about thrifty finds and what you do with them. Pink and Chic Dresser Makeover

This dresser was sitting in my garage for two months and I had so many different plans for it I just couldn't make up my mind. My daughter and I found some vinyl wall stickers on the clearance rack at Kohl's and I finally decided which direction to go. Of course I didn't remember a before shot until after it was primed.

It was your basic maple dresser with antique brass pulls and a Formica type top.

It had seen some better days with scratches all over and even came with a Batman band aid on one of the pulls! Of course I didn't get a pic of that either. :( I had picked up a can of oops paint at Wal-mart that was a bubble gum pink and a black Eiffel Tower vinyl decal as well as some damask vinyl decals. So, I painted her pink and tried to put the Eiffel Tower decal on, but it was just too big. Plan B was the damask decals. I was going to put them on the middle and outer portions of the drawers and alternate from drawer to drawer. But, as I started playing with the decals, I realized how perfectly they would fit with the pulls. I spray painted the pulls black and add a coat of gloss sealer. Then I lined the designs up with the holes for the drawer pulls and cut slits for the screws to fit through. Wa..La.. ( Is that how you spell that?) The finished product!

I usually have alot of self doubt when something is finished. I usually think it looks silly or not so great. Not this time! I love this dresser and I so wish I had a teen age daughter.I has that chic style and some great storage. I think it is adorable and the pulls lined up so perfectly with the decals.

They almost disappear.

Tuesday's Thrifty Treasures

I'm BACK!!!

I didn't fall off of the face of the earth, but I did get a little overwhelmed with life for the last two weeks. We had soo much going on that I couldn't get any projects done, let alone find time to blog. I didn't even go into one thrift store until last Saturday. Therefore, no Tuesdays Thrift Treasures last week.

I have to share one of the reasons I was busy, because it was too cool! We went to an Indian Wedding! Indian weddings last for several days and it was all fun, but the best part was the Henna Tattoo Party. A dear friend of mine's son was getting married, so my daughter and I decided to get in on the fun with the rest of the family.

Now don't judge the condition of my nails, but this was a day or two after we had them put on. They fade away gradually and will last 2-3 weeks before disappearing completely.

The Henna tradition is mainly for weddings and the bride has the most intricate designs, but all of the women are invited to Mendi Night. The designs are for beauty and blessings.

I'm sure I will probably never get to do this again, but it sure was fun.

Ok, now on to my Tuesday's Thrifty Finds. The DAV store in our area has a once a year sale, 98 cents for each item, not including furniture or electronics. So we managed to find $62 worth of these items. I won't bore you with all of them, but these are some of my favorites.

A spoon rack that is going to become a jewelry holder. Watch for an update on this one.

I love these pans. They are ceramic lined with a splatter design. Does anyone know what they are called?

Sotheby's Encyclopedia of Porcelain. What an education for 98 cents!

I love blue and white as you have seen before and I also love little dutch shoes. These were also 98 cents for the pair and the next day I saw one shoe at an estate sale for $38, Wow!

Last but not least, I found these two chairs on Craigslist for $20 (for the pair). They almost perfectly match the chairs in my Black Duncan Phyfe set that I repainted in June. I figured that if I added two more chairs to the set, someone would grab it up! With the holidays approaching (yikes) tables and chairs will be selling!

On a different note, I am quickly approaching 100 followers, yeah!

Tuesday's Thrifty Treasures

I had to endure another weekend with no thrifting. Life has been too hectic to get out and shop lately, as well as things have been moving a little slow lately at the booth. So once again, I am sharing some of the treasures I have come across in the last few months that I don't think you have seen yet. All of these have sold recently and I thought you might enjoy seeing them.

This vintage stereo cabinet was my mom and dads. Perfect for those album collectors with a retro feel.

Loved this granny square afghan that we found at Goodwill!

This cute french provincial desk sold before I could get it home to paint it.

This table and chairs was the same story. Left it at the booth until I had a place to bring it home to, and it sold.

Some of my favorite glasses from my father in laws attic.

Antique Chairs With an Updated Look

I really need to quit shopping at my own antique mall. I keep finding the best bargains, but my basement won't handle much more furniture. I have so many projects going that I barely have room to move.

Well, I came across four of these chairs in a booth marked 75% off. The best part was that they were originally $10 each. That means $10 for four chairs!? Wow, but would my daughter just kill me for buying one more project? The problem was the seats looked like this.

All four of them were cracked and coming apart. I bought them anyway.

She showed up about 30 minutes later and she thought they were awesome. And,

she had a great idea on how to fix them! I was so relieved.

This is what they looked like as I was unraveling them. I have so much respect for the talented people who weave these rush seats to begin with. That is a challenging job. More than I care to take on.

These particular chairs had removable seats. Four screws and they were off.

Here is the seat after I unscrewed it. You can see I still had a little of the rush to remove. Oh my, were my fingers ever tired!

I used a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the remaining tacks that held the ends of the rush.

One of these four chairs was fairly wobbly. I glued it and clamped it overnight and it was a rock.

Here we go, her idea was to replace the seats with jute webbing. I am putting on the first strip with my trusty electric staple gun. I originally thought if I wet the jute and stapled it on wet, it would tighten up as it dried. Not such a great idea. Not only was it sagging after it dried, but the red colors bled.

So, I simply put it on dry and stretched it as tight as I could with one hand and stapled with the other.

I read where you can buy a stretcher, but my own strength seemed to be just fine.

After it is stretched and stapled, I trimmed about 2" away from the staples.

I folded the raw edge under, and stapled it down.

The front to back strips had to overlap slightly since it was wider in the front.

The side to side strips were woven through.

And the seat is finished. I am so happy with how they turned out!

I varied the weaving pattern to mix it up.

I think the finished product is in keeping with the vintage style chair with an updated look.

Tuesday's Thrifty Treasures

I didn't get to do any thrifting this weekend. I feel like I am in withdrawal.

So I am showing you a few things I have collected recently that I haven't shared yet.

My mom picked up this lovely asian print at an estate sale. There is something so sweet about these dogwood branches and the little bird. I sort of claimed it and hung it in my entry way for now.

To feed my wicker obsession, I couldn't resist this wicker couch for $95.

It will look brand new with a little paint and some new cushions.

I bought this antique cradle when I opened my first booth.

I love it but have decided I need to part with it.

This adorable cigar box purse was on the shelf at Major Thrift.

Too cute!

This trunk came from another dealer closing out.

I only paid $20. Yeah!

From Goodwill, I have plans! New paint and new fabric will bring it to life.

And last but not least. A very old cradle that some one decided to glue lace to.

Lot's of projects on the waiting list.

French Provencial Meets European Chalk Paint

I finally finished another chalk paint project. I found these three tables at a Boy Scout Troop garage sale earlier this summer. I was fortunate enough to only pay $15 for all three. They were pretty scratched up, but I was prepared to sand and paint. Until I got my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Then all I had to do was paint!
I used old white and clear wax. Here are the results:

Some moderate distressing and I think they turned out gorgeous.

They are now waiting for a new owner at Lone Elm Antiques.

Tuesday's Thrifty Treasures (Formerly Monday's Treasures)

I am finally giving in to the fact that Monday's are too crazy for me. I actually don't work at my day job on Monday's, which means I stuff the day full. Full of errands, full of appointments, full of everything. And apparently, too full to blog! I have a hard time realizing that I can't do everything, but, I still like to try. I have decided that I am not going to beat myself up about it, I am just going to change it. From now on, we will have Tuesday's Thrifty Treasures. I really would like to make it a linky party, but I am not sure if there is enough interest. Tell me what you think, would you all like another place to link up? Before I share this weeks treasures, I have to tell you about what my daughter and I did yesterday.
We went to our first storage unit auction! It was so fun. We are both addicted to Storage Wars on A&E.
When I was looking on Craigslist this weekend for Estate Sales, I found a post for a storage unit auction close by. I called her and we decided we had to go. It was scheduled to start at 10:00 am Monday and we were there by 9:30, along with about 20 other cars. We promised each other not to bid, this was a chance to observe and learn. We should have bid. They auctioned off 8 units and the most expensive one went for $180 and the one with the most furniture went for $30. It had 2 french provencial dressers and numerous other pieces that we could not tell for sure what they were. If that was all there was, we would have jumped on it, but it was a 10ft x 30ft unit with boxes piled to the ceiling. We just didn't have a plan to get everything out of there. But, now that we know they go for reasonable prices in Kansas, we are making plans for the next one.

Now onto my thrifty treasures.

I bought this beautiful little antique rocker with a carved back for $7.50 from another dealer's closeout sale.

It's going to get a beautiful makeover.

This old (1960's) Winnie the Pooh book and very old interlock letters came from an Estate Sale that had to be 95 degrees inside. It was miserable, so I didn't stay long, but did grab these two things before I fainted.

This cute yellow pitcher and sweet little bust came from a Goodwill I don't normally get to.

I think they are both so sweet.

I love this little poodle I found at an Estate Sale.

And last but not least, my favorite little helper is displaying one of two

Couroc plates I found at the same sale. (Isn't he doing a great job?)
